Hello,
I have a cisco catalyst 2960-s PoE switch. I have a web access to the switch and am able to get statistics on each port.
However, I am wondering if there is a way to have a diagram of the trafic on each port?
Also, what is the best way to monitor the trafic on a router ( i have a cisci 1811W)
Thank you,
Mor.

Hi Mor,
i don't think you can get any diagram unless using specialised software like Solarwinds Suite (i believe to be brilliant) or freeware you can find on the Internet. A good website for these kind of software(freeware) is http://sourceforge.net/ . All these software will run on VM or dedicated server which will gather the data you need and will elaborate the diagram you want to see. A small configuration has to take place on the roure to send this info to the "host" playing the syslog server.
Suggestion,
in NetPro "network Management Section" you can find further info about this.

Thank you Alessio.
Our betwork is build with one router and 2 catalyst-2960-s 48 ports switches (a third one in the future).
I know of Solarinds Suite but would try to avoid a paid solution based on our network size.
Can you please recommend of an open source / free software?
Thanks

Hi Mor,
it's coming on my mind http://www.paessler.com/network_monitoring_tool due to your not excessive number of devices to monitor but in this same post i will send you a couple of software more i like. I have used Nagios (3 different versions) but i guess that it is a too demanding platform for your needs. i had a chat once with the guy who wrote the code of the software you will find on the link i sent you and he seemed to be very skilled and close to the problems they can occur on a network.
You know for sure this website and possibly you do use it for a lot of tips..however, i am going to post you this article i read myself today morning which can help you in order to choose among all the ones present on the Internet:

I must confess that possibly Nagios (should still be freeware) is my favourite , second only to Solarwinds!!
Take Care
Alessio

You can also use ip accounting feature built-in in IOS to find out the top talkers. You can only get out traffic from the interface. It will be your switch port connecting to your router, use it here. Than take the data into excel to figure who is the talker, because it will give you data in bytes, from byte you can convert it to megabytes etc.
!!
Config t
Ip accounting
Interface e0/0
Ip accounting packet out
End
!!
Show ip accounting
You would have to do till of tweaking yourself but it might save you time while searching the tool.

Or you can try this tool. I never used but seems promising.

Two open source free tools are MRTG or Cacti (rrdtool). Both use SNMP. Both run on windows or Linux.

Check out http://www.observium.org/ I have used it and it works pretty well. It was easy to set up and I think it will give you the graphs you are looking for and it is free.

i would recomend Cacti
Its really easy to install and totally free.
You can monitor voip traffic as well like jitter and latency
We are using it in our network and such a good tool. it also provide graphs with interface errors.
here is one of my network graph
Let me know if you want any further help.
thanks
