Monitoring tools?

Hello,

I'm using Netflow and Solarwinds Orion NPM at work to monitor routers and servers and ports on switches, one of the tools that is great is the real-time bandwidth gauge tool which lets me see how much bandwidth a port is using on a server or router via SNMP, does anyone know of a free tool that can do this or recommend any other tools that may be of use that you use that are free so I can use on my home lab?

Thanks

Andrew,

MRTG is an excellent tool for this:

Or if you're wanting more of a website feel, you can use Cacti that also incorporates MRTG:

Thanks guys, I will check these out.  How oftern they update there stats?

I'm after a way to show what the bandwidth of a port on a router or switch is doing evey 5 seconds?

Solarwinds do one as part of their Engineer Tools, but it costs a lot of money.

Thanks

Hi,

I use PRTG on my home lab. I believe it can monitor around 5 devices on the free version.

You could use SolarWinds Free Real-Time NetFlow Analyzer - it is a standa lone free module and does not need NPM. Could be ideal for your lab use - is free and you are already familiar with us.

If you want to explore further, there are free offerrings from Plixer Scrutinizer, ManageEngine NetFlow, etc.
