MTU settings

A question was recently asked regarding MTUs and I am not sure how to respond.

My office had Cisco complete an Optimization Review of our network and one of the items that was pointed out was that our MTU size across our WAN link needed to be reduced. This recommendation only addressed the WAN links. The question now is regarding our switches. Is there any concern with the Switches and Routers having different MTU sizes? Based on what I know and have read, I don't believe that we have any concern. Any experts out there have evidence I can use either way?

Hi Nate,

One first thing that would pop up in my mind when changing MTU on routers is OSPF.

If you have routers running OSPF and MTU sizes do not match on the interfaces through which they are communicating, the could still form adjacencies but they may fail to exchange OSPF database info.
