multicast RP selection

hi guys.

i'm facing this strange issue, where the router is not seeing/showing the priority of the RP. and hence selecting the wrong RP.

The device with issue

show ip pim rp mapping

PIM Group-to-RP Mappings

Group(s) 224.0.0.0/4

  RP 10.97.255.1 (?), v2

Info source: 10.87.255.1 (?), via bootstrap

         Uptime: 2w1d, expires: 00:01:32

  RP 10.87.255.1 (?), v2

Info source: 10.87.255.1 (?), via bootstrap

         Uptime: 2w1d, expires: 00:01:34

it is not showing the priority, hence it is selecting the one with highest IP. BUT the design is other way around. a working router has the following output

show ip pim rp mapping

PIM Group-to-RP Mappings

Group(s) 224.0.0.0/4

  RP 10.87.255.1 (?), v2

Info source: 10.87.255.1 (?), via bootstrap, priority 10, holdtime 150

         Uptime: 7w2d, expires: 00:01:58

  RP 10.97.255.1 (?), v2

Info source: 10.87.255.1 (?), via bootstrap, priority 20, holdtime 150

         Uptime: 7w2d, expires: 00:01:56

Hi Sulaiman,

The IOS you are currently use on this device is really old. I agree with you that the issue is most probably software related. I would suggest you upgrade to some more recent IOS.
