Yes, most (if not all) devices have ports that support lower speeds; I think all Cisco devices do. What device is it and do u have an issue? You can always check a device specs paper to see what speeds are supported. For 1 gig speed over Cat 5 Ethernet cable you will need cable labeled as Cat5e or Cat6

10 Mbps, no it will not work.
Just because the wireless NIC of a clients is 1 Gbps does not necessarily mean that it will not need 10 Mbps. I have seen several conference/meeting room peripherals, with 1 Gbps NIC, that initializes at 10 Mbps. If these peripherals are plugged into an mGIG switch, it will not get an IP address.

- What model is this phone?
- Is the port configured for the voice VLAN?
- Is the Voice VLAN allowed on the Trunk?
- Is the Voice VLAN found in the VLAN database?
- Is the Voice VLAN IP address enabled?
- Is the Voice VLAN DHCP pool configured correctly?
- How many phones were plugged into the mGIG switch and having problems?

The phones are powering up but are not getting IP addresses, is this correct?
Ok, try this on the 3850 where the phones work: Configure the port to be 100- and/or 1 Gbps by using the command "speed auto 100 1000". Disconnect the phone(s) and plug them back in. Are they behaving exactly the same thing?
