Hello all,

After searching, all I can come up with is multicast is tested in the CCIE.

Is this protocaol taught for config and troubleshooting anywhere in the roadmap?

Thanks

Reed

Hello Reed,

Yes multicast is not in the blueprint for CCNA/CCNP in R&S. Anyway it is a good idea to learn about it. It is in the CCIE R&S blueprint.

You can use the old BSCI materials where it was included.

Regards,

Alex

So - is the BCSI the last option for training on multicast? Other options would be individual

class as offered by various vendors?

Thanks

Reed

BSCI had very limited and basic coverage of multicast...I had a look at multicast class by INE...That was pretty good...Though if you don't want to get into too much detail,no need to spend time on that...It will be better to see this from CCIE track.

Reed and Ankur,

Yes, the BSCI covered a basic IP multicast but in itself, it was a solid foundation: IGMP, IGMP Snooping, PIM-DM, PIM-SM, AutoRP, BSR. The current CCNP barely scratches the topic of multicasts somewhere in the SWITCH training, almost as an off-hand remark. Even though the multicast topic was not that deep in the older BSCI, it was much better than what remained of it now in the current CCNP. Considering the explosive growth of video applications over IP networks, I just do not understand the decision of the people behind CCNP certification contents to remove the multicast so drastically.

In fact, and I have always been very vocal about it, the entire change from BSCI/ISCW/BCMSN/ONT to the current ROUTE/SWITCH/TSHOOT is in my opinion detrimental to its level, usability and value. Wonderful topics were thrown away, many were simplified, the alignment towards higher level certifications has weakened. While I appreciate the TSHOOT and the extended coverage of IPv6 in the new CCNP, the removal of IS-IS, multicasts, entire ISCW and ONT/QoS was in my opinion a plainly bad move. So sad to see it happen...

Best regards,

Peter
