N7710, 1G SFP on F3 module

I tried to use a 1G SFP on the N7710 F3 module.  But kept getting "Transceiver speed does not match the speed configured on the port" message.

Is there any tricks on that?  e.g. do I have to configure the port speed / plug in the SPF in specific order?  Thanks!

NX-OS 6.2(8)

Module: N77-F348XP-23

interface Ethernet1/42
  speed 1000

Ethernet1/42 is down (Transceiver speed does not match the speed configured on the port)
admin state is down, Dedicated Interface
  Hardware: 1000/10000 Ethernet, address: 002a.6a8c.9541 (bia 544a.00ad.59a5)

That's odd. According to this link 1Gbps is supported on the newest version of NX-OS:

Try defaulting the port, plug the SFP out and back in and then setting the port speed.
