I agree with Reza.

There is ample flash space for a 2nd IOS (Install Mode);

Don't forget to read the Release Notes.

Hello,

unless you need both images, during the upgrade process you will be asked to erase the existing files in flash, so you should be fine.

You can also use the 'software clean' command to remove unnecessary files from your flash. See the below document for reference:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-3850-series-switches/117552-technote-cat3850-00.html

Hi Georg,

But im planning to remove the old ios after sometime. i just want to make
sure everything is running fine. This switch is running on a live
production environment so i dont want to take any risk.

Im only confused on the flash ie requirement is 2GB but switch is showing
only 1.6 GB.Why is it like that. But on the data sheet of the switch its
mentioned as 2GB.

I am trying to delete the old IOS but this command is not showing up "software clean" any idea why ?

I know that I can delete it manual but I am confused why this is an unknown command.

I also have two more 3850 stacked and there it worked fine.

What firmware is the stack running on?

Cisco IOS Software [Denali], Catalyst L3 Switch Software (CAT3K_CAA-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 16.3.5b, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
ROM: IOS-XE ROMMON
BOOTLDR: CAT3K_CAA Boot Loader (CAT3K_CAA-HBOOT-M) Version 3.58, RELEASE SOFTWARE (P)
Technology Package License Information:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Technology-package Technology-package
Current Type Next reboot
------------------------------------------------------------------
ipbasek9 Permanent ipbasek9

I have the same 16.3.5b on two other switches where the command is working fine.

I found it out :)
They changed it from "Software clean" to "request platform software package clean "

Depends on the IOS version you're upgrading to.

The 16.X IOS will clean out the old firmware using default command.

Hi Leo,

Im planning to up upgrade the ios to
cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.04.E.152-2.E4.bin
Min requirement of this ios for Flash is 2048 ie 2GB but i can see only 1.6
GB flash on my switch . So how is it posile to do that.

Post the complete output to the command "dir flash-1:" and "dir flash-2:".

hi Leo,

Please check the atachment :)

Hi,

As I said before, you still have about 1.2 to 1.3 Gig available to load the new IOS.  So, you are good to go.

The attachment shows 1.3 available.

Hi,

According to the output you posted, you have 1269755904 (1.2Gig) available space on your flash. So, you can load the new IOS and keep the old IOS as well in case you need to revert to it.
