Some more reference for you:

55xx will work fine. You can vpc a 5548 to a 5596. You cannot however vpc a 5010/5020 to a 55xx.

5010/5020 - gatos asic
5548/5596 - carmel asic

Basically they have to be the same kind of asic to work together in vpc.

A Nexus 50x0 cannot be a vPC peer for Nexus 55xx due to different ways of VPC implementation between the two.
