Nexus 5548 can't ping servers on same vlan/subnet?

So,

COmpany received Nexus 5548 and setting it up I now know it does not handle Layer 3 switching.  Ok, no issue we have a 6509-E to handle that.

Issue, Nexus CAN'T EVEN ping servers connected to the 6509.

Ports 1&2 are set as trunk ports to the 6509 on both ends with all vlans allowed, vtp says it is receiving data.  Native vlan set as same as servers vlan.

IP of Nexus5548=172.16.1.247

IP of an FTP server I am trying to reach 172.16.1.43

IP of 6509-E 172.16.1.254

Can;t ping anything.

SO far the 5548 has nothing attached to it except the trunk fiber to the 6509.

Resolution?

Hi Matt,

Make sure you ping you are specifying the management VRF:

ping x.x.x.x vrf management

NxOS will assume default VRF, however the MGMT0 is statically set to VRF Management

Yup that worked.

Is this something new in NexusOS vs IOS?  Never had to do that before.

Yeah, this is new for NxOS.  But keep in mind it really only applies to the management interface.  Other L3 interfaces would be in the default VRF by, well...default.  So if you had a Nexus7000 SVI's would be in the default VRF, and you could ping from that w/o specifying the VRF.
