Nexus 7700 Portchannel using 10 and 40 GigE Ports of M3 Linecards

Problem in Etherchannel Configuration using Ports of different M3 Linecards

I use two Nexus 7706 with NX-OS 8.2(1); each Device has two Linecards

N77-M348XP-23L   Slot  2

N77-M324FQ-25L   Slot 5

I want to create a Portchannel between the two devices using the following ports

Eth5/1 contains CVR-QSFP-SFP10G Adapter in combination with SFP-10G-SR Transceiver

Eth2/1 contains SFP-10G-SR Transceiver

Creating Portchannel using following commands results in an error message

dc-gw(config)# int eth2/1

dc-gw(config-if)# switchport

dc-gw(config-if)# switchport mode trunk

dc-gw(config-if)#  channel-group 100 mode on

dc-gw(config-if)# int eth5/1

dc-gw(config-if)# switchport

dc-gw(config-if)# switchport mode trunk

dc-gw(config-if)# channel-group 100 mode on

command failed: port not compatible [Capabilities speed]

Setting speed of Eth 5/1

dc-gw(config-if)# speed 10000

ERROR: Ethernet5/1: Configuration does not match the port capability.

does not work.

Greetings Manfred

I wonder if the use of a 4 x 10G breakout cable will resolve the issue. I am also considering to propose this to a client, to split the port-channel across the 2 modules to provide some more redundancy, but have not been able to confirm if it works or even supported.

Hi,
a QSFP-4x10G Adapter will work; a CVR-QSFP-SFP10G Adapter is not
supported in Nexus 7000 and 7700 Linecards.

Hi,

Have you configured the required N77-M324FQ-25L module interfaces into Breakout Mode? Breakout Mode enables a 40GbE port on the module to be split into four independant 10GbE ports.

Hi Will,

Reading and investigating Ciscos Documentation results in the fact, that
CVR-OSFP-SFP10G Adapters are not supported in Nexus 7000 and 7700 Linecards.
I have to use a QSFP-4x10G Breakout Adapter.
Thanks Manfred

I seek clarification on the more important issue of whether we can bundle into a port-channel a 10g port on the N77-M348XP-23L module with a 10g port out of the breakout cable on the N77-M324FQ-25L. Is this a supported configuration? Thanks.
