Nexus and 6509 VTP interop

Our network guys are having issues getting VTP to work between our 6509s and Nexus 5010 switches. Our Nexus switches need to support about 10 VLANs, which need to be trunked to the 6509s. Connected to the Nexus switches are HP blades using Virtual Connect, which need to have VLAN trunks.

If we can't use VTP, what is the recommended method to extend VLANs across Nexus and 6509 switches? It seems the Nexus only supports VTP in transparent mode, so I'm unclear how we can make this configuration work.

In addition, we have a fabric extender off the 5010, and we need ports on the FE assigned to a single VLAN that is accessible by devices connected to our 6509 switches.

Ideas?

Hi,

You are right Nexus platform only supports  transparent mode, As your are using VTP between other 6500 switches in your network and to distribute the vlans on nexus the only option is with manual configuration of vlan on nexus switches to ensure the consistency over the network for vlan distribution.

Hope to Help !!
