Nexus failover time - host connectivity

Hello all,

Does anyone know what the average failover time is for hosts dual-connected to a pair of Nexus 9k's (vPC configuration)? I recently upgraded four Nexus 9k's, one at a time, and found some hosts had lost connectivity for about 6 seconds during the upgrade of each 9k. Does this amount of time sound too long? Should it be sub-second or at least a few seconds?

I will add that under the vPC configuration, there are no added statements (peer-switch, peer-gateway, ip arp synch, etc.)...simply "role priority".

Thanks!

Hi,

How are the hosts connected to the 9ks? If each host has 2 links (one to each switch) using a Portchannel, the only thing you use is what is already in the wire. so, maybe 1 or 2 seconds. If the hosts are not using Portchannels, than it may take closer to 5 or 6 second for the fail-over to work. Also, are the hosts links configure with HA?
