Nexus supervisor replacement 6.2(16) SUP1 SUP2e

We are looking to replace our N7K-SUP1 in our 2 Nexus units.. Im interested in peoples thoughts on the following:

Currently they are connected as:

NX1#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2 active

NX2#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2 active

Looking at the migration guide here, I'm wondering if the following would be a valid combination, making use of the SUP1 for longer:

(our SUP1 has 8gb)

Option 1:

SUP2e is added to each NX unit, but left in standby. Should the SUP1 ever fail, it automatically fails over to the standby card, the new SUP2e. This is making use of the SUP1 until it dies, should it ever happen..

NX1#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor Module-1X N7K-SUP1 active

2 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2E ha-standby

NX2#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor Module-1X N7K-SUP1 active

2 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2E ha-standby

Option 2:

I run them in pairs, each allowing fail-over from a SUP of the same type..

NX1#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor Module-1X N7K-SUP1 active

2 0 Supervisor Module-1X N7K-SUP1 ha-standby

NX2#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2E active

2 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2E ha-standby

I know that at some point the SUP1 could potential die, and I wont be able to replace it, but at that point I can just install another SUP2e

Any thoughts?

This appears more sensible approach - thinking eventually you upgrade sup-1 also bring same level.

NX1#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status

1 0 Supervisor Module-1X N7K-SUP1 active

2 0 Supervisor Module-1X N7K-SUP1 ha-standby

NX2#show mod
Mod Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ----- ----------------------- -------------- ---------
1 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2E active

2 0 Supervisor module-2 N7K-SUP2E ha-standby
