Hi Guys,

i need your advise for this issue

We have two Core nexus 7K running OSPF over the network & these two are connected to multiple N7Ks too, by OSPF point to point as below config

for this link in particular eth 10/3 & 10/6 i keep seeing logs from core 1 looks like osfp flapping but i cant detect the reason.

is this flapping issue?

Hi,

If BFD enabled on these devices? If yes, can you disable BFD feature (no feature bfd) and test again?

Hi

No, It will not affect your network but is recommended to do that into a maintenance window. BFD is used to detect failures quickly.

BFD is a detection protocol that is designed to provide fast forwarding path failure detection times for all media types, encapsulations, topologies, and routing protocols. In addition to fast forwarding path failure detection, BFD provides a consistent failure detection method for network administrators. Because the network administrator can use BFD to detect forwarding path failures at a uniform rate, rather than the variable rates for different routing protocol hello mechanisms, network profiling and planning will be easier, and reconvergence time will be consistent and predictable.

Can any body help me how to troubleshoot and solve the problem ?

Hello,

BFD negotiates some parameters such as timers with neighbors. Before disabling it completely, try to disable and enable it. It will renegotiate and set up new timers. You can also set the timer manually with "bfd interval" command. I also suggest you to check the cables between your devices. If no success, then disable it.

Thank you Julio,

I'll try and disable the BFD in a maintenance time. My only concern is what BFD is detecting consider it as a failure? i hope this will help after disable BFD. honestly i tried troubleshooting for a long time with no success.

Thanks again

Hi

If no change has been implemented over this point to point, you could consider replace the SFP or cable, also monitor the CPU utilization on the distribution switch, assuming the Core has more uplinks without inconveniences.

:-)
