pagp,dtp and vlan1

Hi everybody

By default native vlan on 802.1q trunk is vlan 1. Protocols such as DTP,PagP use vlan1 by default.   If we change native vlan 1 on a dot1q trunk to say vlan 4, does it mean DTP and Pagp now use vlan 4 not vlan 1?

thanks and have a great day.

Hi Sarah,

No, they still use vlan 1.  Even when you shut down vlan, protocols like Pagp, CDP, etc.. use vlan 1 to communicate.

Which is why you shouldn't use vlan 1 for anything even a native vlan. Use a dummy unused vlan as the native and keep everything off vlan 1.
