can anyone please tell me what the difference is, is asa a new name or form of pix ?

Hi Carl:

The ASA's are part of Cisco's self defending initiative. Basically, the ASA's are an all in one solution (firewall, ips, and vpn).

The ASA will replace the Pix

ASAs are already available in the market and peopl too are using the same at present.

Carl,

ASA is already is use and Cisco is promoting it over PIX for the addtional capabilities it have like IPS, Anti-X defense etc.

Its orderable and is getable.

Main difference is ASA has slot for service modules (AIP and CSC) more info:

So it offers more complex security services (including antivirus, antispam solutions..)...There is no annoucement about end of sale for PIX I think they can coexists for several years....PIX 525 and 535 has advantage with number of interfaces

ASA with modules is more expensive but offers more services.

great is that they share same operating system
