Level 1

Hai,

I ahave one cisco Nexus 7000 with version 6.1(2).
I created 3 VDC

ADMIN
CORE
security

I have configured 1 - 45 ports for Core and 46 - 48 ports for Security.
Now I am not using the VDC Security and I tried to move the assigned ports 46 - 48 from Security to ADMIN.
Switch accepted the command .But the ports are not visible on ADMIN VDC.Now it is not showing on Security VDC also.

I need this ports in ADMIN VDC

Is there any way to resolve this ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Sree,

I did this testing and it is working fine for me. Please see below:

Nexus7K(config-vdc)# show vdc membership

vdc_id: 1 vdc_name: Nexus7010 interfaces:

Ethernet2/10          Ethernet2/12          Ethernet2/14

Ethernet2/31          Ethernet2/32

Nexus7K(config-vdc)# no allocate interface e2/32  <<<< Removing the e2/32 interface from the vdc.

2- Adding this interface to other VDC.

Nexus7K(config-vdc)# vdc Inayath

Nexus7K(config-vdc)# allocate interface e2/32  <<< Added the interface

Nexus7K# show vdc mem

vdc_id: 4 vdc_name: Inayath interfaces:

        Ethernet2/2           Ethernet2/4           Ethernet2/6

        Ethernet2/8           Ethernet2/26          Ethernet2/28

Ethernet2/30          Ethernet2/32     <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<, Interface is showing in this now.

Same been followed to put back the interface and its working fine.

Please check the same again and let me know.

Make sure you login to the admin vdc and allocate the interface46-48 on that vdc.

Is there any way to fix this

Thanks in advance

Sreelal

Hi Sreelal,

Can you please share the output of show vdc and show vdc membership?

Regards

Inayath

hai,

Please find the output. Here I can see that the ports are in vdc_id: 0.

How we can move this ports to vdc_id: 1 vdc_name: NX02-

NX02-# show vdc

vdc_id  vdc_name                          state               mac                 type        lc

------  --------                          -----               ----------          ---------   ------

1       NX02-                        active              40:55:39:0d:f4:41   Admin       None

2       CORE-SW                   active              40:55:39:0d:f4:42   Ethernet    m1 f1 m1xl m2xl

NX02-# show vdc membership

vdc_id: 0 vdc_name: Unallocated interfaces:

        Ethernet3/20          Ethernet3/21          Ethernet3/22

        Ethernet3/23          Ethernet3/24

        Ethernet4/45          Ethernet4/46          Ethernet4/47

        Ethernet4/48

vdc_id: 1 vdc_name: NX02- interfaces:

vdc_id: 2 vdc_name: CORE-SW interfaces:

        Ethernet3/1           Ethernet3/2           Ethernet3/3

        Ethernet3/4           Ethernet3/5           Ethernet3/6

        Ethernet3/7           Ethernet3/8           Ethernet3/9

        Ethernet3/10          Ethernet3/11          Ethernet3/12

        Ethernet3/13          Ethernet3/14          Ethernet3/15

        Ethernet3/16          Ethernet3/17          Ethernet3/18

        Ethernet3/19

NX02-(config)# vdc NX02-

NX02-(config-vdc)# allocate interface ethernet 4/48

Moving ports will cause all config associated to them in source vdc to be removed. Are you sure you want to move the ports (y/n)?  [yes]

But the port is still not in admin VDC

Hi,

Admin VDC is the default VDC and you can't allocate ports to it. Admin VDC is just for management and for when you need to turn on certain features.

HTH

Hi

how can we see unallocated ports on the nexus 7Ks?

Hi Sree,

Yes as Reza said you allocate this interface to any other VDC other than Admin VDC and you should be able to do that.

Please find below the Guidelines and Limitations for Creating Admin VDCs:

"

No interfaces from any line card module can be allocated to an admin VDC. Only mgmt0 can be allocated to an admin VDC which means that for an admin VDC, only out-of-band management is possible through the mgmt0 interface and console port."
