Hi All,

I am having 2 switch, in which i planned to use port channel. My question is

1. If I configure both the switches with channel group, do I have to use same channel number. ( I planned to use LACP )

2.   If it is necessary to configure port channel on both the switches or   configuring on one seitch is enough. If I am supposed to configure on   both the switches, do I have to use same channel number.

Hello Sabari,

1) the channel group number can be different on the two switches

2) both switches have to be configured for the same bundling protocol LACP (in your case)

missing to configure one switch would lead to a non working bundle.

Use of LACP is highly recommended instead of unconditional bundling.

For LACP at least one side has to be configured to be in active state in order to start bundle negotiation,. usually both switches are configured with active mode.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

As Giuseppe said the port channels do not have to match  but from a standard troubleshooting angle, I find it easier to make them the same and use port descriptions  so everything lines up.  Makes things easier if you have to troubleshoot  in the long run.
