Is it normal behavior for the speed and duplex settings to go away when an SFP is inserted into a TwentyFiveGig port? I'm not using an official Cisco brand SFP so I thought maybe these FS.COM 10gig sfp units aren't working as intended. Catalyst 9500 24y4c

This answers my question! I guess you don't get some basic features with $12,000 switches!
Table 1. Default Layer 2 Ethernet Interface ConfigurationFeatureDefault Setting
Operating mode | Layer 2 or switching mode (switchport command) for C9500-12Q-E, C9500-12Q-A, C9500-24Q-E, C9500-24Q-A, C9500-40X-E, and C9500-40X-A models of the Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches. Layer 3 or routed port for C9500-32C, C9500-32QC, C9500-48Y4C, and C9500-24Y4C models of the Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches |
Allowed VLAN range | VLANs 1 to 4094. |
Default VLAN (for access ports) | VLAN 1 (Layer 2 interfaces only). |
Native VLAN (for IEEE 802.1Q trunks) | VLAN 1 (Layer 2 interfaces only). |
VLAN trunking | Switchport mode dynamic auto (supports DTP) (Layer 2 interfaces only). |
Port enable state | All ports are enabled. |
Port description | None defined. |
Speed | Autonegotiate. (Not supported on the 40-Gigabit interfaces.) The C9500-32C, C9500-32QC, C9500-48Y4C, and C9500-24Y4C models of the Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches do not support autonegotiate. Their speed is determined by the type of transceiver module plugged in. |
Duplex mode | Autonegotiate. (Not supported on the 40-Gigabit interfaces.) The C9500-32C, C9500-32QC, C9500-48Y4C, and C9500-24Y4C models of the Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches support full duplex mode. |

Hello,
Do the SFP's show under show inventory? You cannot "change" the speed, if the devices are connected. Also which version are you running on the 9500?
You should check this bug:

SFP always have one speed and duplex setting is always "full" therefore it makes no sense to enable the speed/duplex settings in CLI &/or GUI.

They do show up in inventory. And I'm running Bengaluru 17.6.x I just got these things unboxed last week.
So how then are these https://www.fs.com/products/36351.html 10g SFPs negotiating to 1g ?
For example I have a 1g capable industrial switch and I have it connected to a cisco SG350X via the 10g SFP+ ports.
Both ends of that connection are using the same 10g optics as I linked to above. But the SG350X is able to autonego down to 1g on the SFP+ port XG1.( and I can manually set it) So, I it's possible that these 10g SFPs can operate at 1g.
When I attempt to connect the 1g industrial switch to the catalyst 9500 it doesn't work unless I use the old 1g optics I have laying around.
