Hello everybody.
On a Catalyst 3560 I have these messages showing up:
882492: Oct 20 10:14:28: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi0/27: Power Device detected: Cisco PD
882493: Oct 20 10:14:29: %ILPOWER-5-POWER_GRANTED: Interface Gi0/27: Power granted
882494: Oct 20 10:14:29: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi0/27: PD removed
The port has this config:
interface GigabitEthernet0/27
switchport access vlan 10
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 40
no logging event link-status
spanning-tree portfast
end
I connected the cable to port 26 and 37, both of them having the exact same config: the problem still persists.
What could it be and how could I solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
F.

hi flavio ,,
need more clarification for your problem !!!!
1. do you want to remove any logs message for interface power down ???
2 . are you telling that once you remove workstation from gi0/27 and connect it to some different port you see same message ??
- you can first clear these logs by using # clear logging buffer ......

In addtion to logs, please provide the output of "show power inline"

Hello Ankur.
I do not need the logs to be cleared, I just want the device connected to that port to go online.
Here some more output:
switch#sh int status | i 0/27
Gi0/27 notconnect 10 auto auto 10/100/1000BaseTX
switch#show power inline
Available:370.0(w) Used:210.0(w) Remaining:160.0(w)
Interface Admin Oper Power Device Class Max
(Watts)
--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----
Gi0/27 auto off 0.0 n/a n/a 15.4
Thanks again.

Hi,
you've got nothing connected to interface so POE is off.
Can you connect the Phone and do debug power inline and debug CDP packets
Regards.
Alain.

Hello Alain.
I do have something connected on that port, otherwise it wouldn't constantly tell me that:
882492: Oct 20 10:14:28: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi0/27: Power Device detected: Cisco PD
882493: Oct 20 10:14:29: %ILPOWER-5-POWER_GRANTED: Interface Gi0/27: Power granted

Hi,
switch#sh int status | i 0/27
Gi0/27 notconnect 10 auto auto 10/100/1000BaseTX
This may be due to POE so can you turn off POE on the port then enable the debugs I asked then reenable POE and post outputs from the debugs.
Alain.

Hello Alain.
I managed to do "power inline never", then I enabled "debug cdp packets" but the "debug power inline" does not exist. I thought it could be "debug ilpower port", thus I enabled it and then I re-enabled PoE on that port with "power inline auto".
This is what I got:
vxs02a2(config-if)#power inline auto

Any further steps I could take?
Thanks!

Hmmmm ... Let's try a TDR cable test ...
1. Command: test cable tdr interface Gi 0/27;
2. Wait for about 5 to 7 seconds;
3. Command: sh cable tdr interface Gi 0/27;
4. Please post the complete output.

Here we go:
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi0/27 auto Pair A 10 +/- 4 meters N/A Open
Pair B 11 +/- 4 meters N/A Open
Pair C 11 +/- 4 meters N/A Open
Pair D 11 +/- 4 meters N/A Open

Uhhhh ... how is this going to help?
The result tells me that NOTHING is connected to the cable.
If there's something connected the result will not be "OPEN" on all four pairs.

That's true, but it may be that this behaviour is originated from a faulty Cisco PD device, or what else do you think?
I'll take a walk and check WHAT is actually connected to that port. The weird thing is that *nobody* ever told nothing about something not workin...

F.

No. It means that the patch cable, 10 meters long, is plugged to nothing. Please verify that something is plugged and run the test again.

But if it'd be connected to nothing, why do I have those ILPOWER-DETECT/GRANT/DISCONNECT messages in the term mon?
