Hi all,
I just got 5 routers (CISCO2811-AC-IP) with 5 NME-16ES-1G-P modules for them.
I haven't used a switch module in a router in years, and have never used one for PoE.
Anyways, I found:

From that link:
"The new Cisco EtherSwitch service modules (NME-16ES-1G-P, NME-X-23ES-1G-P, NME-XD-24ES-1S-P, and NME-XD-48ES-2S-P only) are capable of providing both Cisco pre-standard and IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) support when inserted in Cisco 2800 Series or 3800 Series Integrated Services Routers (requires an upgrade to an AC-IP power supply)."
If I plug in a Cisco 7970 phone (which uses 802.3af if I'm not mistaken?), it does supply power.
Unfortunately, this customer has only the older 7940 and 7960 phones, which require the pre-standard PoE. And of course, when I plug in a 7940, the link light on the NME card lights up for that port, but the phone doesn't have power, and if I do "show power inline" I see no power being supplied on that port.
Am I missing something in terms of how to get pre-standard PoE devices working in the scenario, or is that document I quoted above incorrect?
Any help would be most appreciated!

Just thought I'd share the solution in case anyone else had this issue.
The NME module shipped with 12.2(35) on it, and I updated it to 12.2(46)SE
This solved the pre-standard PoE issue. Must have been some bug with the factory version.

Just to carry on this thread and maybe help, I experienced the same issue. NME-16ES-1G-P shipped with 12.2.35, cisco 7940, 7910 and 7912 all experienced no Power from the 2811/2821 with AC-IP PSU. Port would error disable and state loopback detected. I upgrade to 12.2.50 code and all was fine.
