Problem HSRP and VSS 4500 Switch

Hi,

i hope someone can help me with the issue i'm facing

i have the following scenario

2 x CPE 2901 with HSRP groups for 4 VLANS

both are connected to a VSS 4500 Switch.

1 x CPE is connected to the first switch and the other to the second switch

i have the weird problem that if i shutdown the interface on the Switch where the cpe is connected the interface on the CPE remains UP

i have also the issue with asymetric traffic, download over cpe1 and upload over cpe2

i have to say that on the VSS i have the access switches connected with Portchannel but only the 2 CPEs are single attached

the switch has the DG pointing to the Virtual IP: 192.168.100.1

a small picture of the setup:

also on the CPE the interface attached to the Switch has 4 subinterfaces, see below:

config on CPEs with HSRP:

Gi0/0 up up Link to Customer LAN
Gi0/0.10 up up Link to Customer LAN vrf1
Gi0/0.20 up up Link to Customer LAN vrf2
Gi0/0.30 up up Link to Customer MAC vrf3
Gi0/0.40 up up Link to Mgmt

config interface on the VSS switch

interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1/4
description cpe1:Gi0/0
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20,30,40
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast edge trunk
end

interface TenGigabitEthernet2/1/4
description cpe2:Gi0/0
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20,30,40
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast edge trunk
end

can anyone help pls?

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

In VSS environment, for things to work correctly, each CEP needs to connect to both VSS switches and not just one. So, CPE-1 to switch-1, CPE-1 to switch-2 (Po1). CPE-2 to switch-1 and CPE-2 to switch-2 (Po2).
