I am having 6513 running on "s72033-psv-mz.122-17d.SXB1.bin"
It has the following modules...
Mod Ports Card Type Model
--- ----- -------------------------------------- ------------------
1 16 SFM-capable 16 port 1000mb GBIC WS-X6516A-GBIC
2 48 48 port 10/100/1000mb EtherModule WS-X6148-GE-TX
3 48 48 port 10/100/1000mb EtherModule WS-X6148-GE-TX
4 48 48 port 10/100/1000mb EtherModule WS-X6148V-GE-TX
7 2 Supervisor Engine 720 (Active) WS-SUP720-3B
I am going to upgrade the existing PSU to "WS-CAC-6000W"
I have following concern that I want to confirm
1. As per the link..
It is suggested to upgrade the image to 12.2(17d)SXB.
Is it feasible to use existing ios "12.2(17d)SXB1" with "WS-CAC-6000W". Would there be an issue with kind of power mode I am using.
I don't want to reboot my switch.
2. With kind of modules I am using, would there be any outage to any module if I replace PSU one by one.
Will these modules survive with one PSU.
I have some servers attached to this one switch and I don't want to have any kind of outage.
Existing PSU....
#show power
will provide soon
Also let me know for any specific output required here.
Thanx

Avrind,
You need to read the spec again.
Software Compatibility | Cisco IOS® Software Release: • 12.2(18)SXD and later • 12.1E: not supported Cisco Catalyst OS: • 8.4(1) |
You need to upgrade to 12.2.18SXD or later to support this PUSU.
You will need a reload to use the new IOS.
A mantenance downtime window will be required.

Alex.

Alex,
Yes, it is clearly mentioned to upgarde the IOS however I don't want to reboot the switch.
I don't have enough time to get necessary approval thats reason,I don't want to upgrade it.
Currently it is running in rundandent mode and I have seen that someone upgraded the PSU with same image I have.
That image forced it to be in combined mode.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/585129#585129
I can understand that that will surely hit me too.
1. I cann't use the redundent mode
2. If I continue with combined mode, it will affect in future.
As links says ... https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2070718
"Power supply is removed with redundancy disabled(combined mode)
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules,
some modules are powered down and marked as power-deny
in the show power oper state field."

It probably won't even recognize it if you don't upgrade the code first.
