PSU working mode on Cisco IR8300 routers and C9000 switches

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some very basic information how redundant PSUs on Cisco devices are handled.

I could read that the power could be configured to work in redundant or combined mode.

We specifically have IR8340 router with 150W AV PSU.

For the C9000 switches, we have C9200-24P with dual 600W PSUs that need to provide PoE power.

By default will the devices work in redundant mode, even for the switches?

Thanks in advance for the clarification

Thanks @Mark Elsen

For combined mode the explanation is very clear. I am trying to figure out if in redundant 1+1 mode the power draw can go above the 600W of one PSU, this part is not clear. Also, in normal operation is the load shared between the 2 PSUs in redundant 1+1 mode?

 - @mhabdrah     I don't have an exact answer , have a look at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-9000/nb-06-cat9k-swit-plat-faq-cte-en.html  and look for power supp with find in the browser ; also have a look at

Thanks mate.

Actually you can find the power consumptions for the switches with/without PoE online

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-9300-series-switches/nb-06-cat9300-ser-data-sheet-cte-en.html

For example, a C9300-48P-E with two 715W PSU will have a max PoE power at 1152W.

What I am trying to figure out is what power config should be applied in this case. Should it be configured a redundant or combined? Is there any additional power consumed by the switch? These kind of things. But I couldn't find relevant information online.
