Have one policy map defined on the LAN interface of our customers router. (shape average 31457280). So the traffic would be dropped if it goes up above 30mbps.

We spot large number of broadcast received on that interface- count always going up. I would like to know if it would add to the total 30mbp allowed? ( I guess it won’t get added, but just wanted to confirm)

Hari,

Shaping is applied on the interface OUTBOUND direction.

The shaper is applied to all traffic in the outbound direction.

You are saying that you are receiving large broadcasts therefore inbound.

You cannot shape traffic you have already received.

You could police instead in the inbound direction.

Alex.

Thank you for your suggestion.

It’s applied to the interface via following command.

service-policy output test

Can you please elaborate your suggestion? My question is will the large number of broadcast will add up to 30 mbps allowed and

Reject other useful traffic.
