QSFP-40G-SR4 Can't see interfaces

Greetings to all!

I have a 6001 running 7.0(2)N1(1) and I'm running in to an issue or at least I think I am.

Here is a napkin drawing of the topology.

Napkin Drawing.png

Attached is more details on the Panduit cable. It’s really just a hydra cable (1x40G breaks out to 4x10G). I’m working on getting the details for the 10G card that is in the server. I don’t’ think I’ll have that until Monday from my server team.

On the switch side there is no config as I’m just trying to get the link to come up at layer 1.

AMUSSOUT02SW002# sho run int e2/4

!Command: show running-config interface Ethernet2/4

!Time: Fri Nov 21 19:06:36 2014

version 7.0(2)N1(1)

interface Ethernet2/4

no shutdown

AMUSSOUT02SW002# sho int e2/4 trans de

transceiver is present

type is QSFP-40G-SR4

name is CISCO

    part number is QSFP-40G-SR4

revision is B2

serial number is XAN0CB5E0028

    nominal bitrate is 10300 MBit/sec

Link length supported for 50/125um OM3 fiber is 150 m

Link length supported for 50/125um OM2 fiber is 30 m

cisco id is --

cisco extended id number is 16

DOM is not supported

The server admins said “they look ok, but they are not showing link up from dmesg”…

bnx2x 0000:05:00.1: eth5: Warning: Unqualified SFP+ module detected, Port 1 from Intel Corp       part number AFBR-703SDZ-IN2

What I think I should be seeing on the 6001 side would be interfaces like 2/4/1, 2/4/2, etc just like I was using a QSFP-4SFP10G-CU5M. Can anyone help me confirm that is correct?

Please let me know and thanks for your help!

Tom

Greetings to all, I posted this issue on the troubleshooting forums and someone responded with this answer...

Since you are connecting a 40Gig interface to 4 10Gig you need to add this command

interface breakout slot 2 port x-x map 10g-4x

to make interface 2/4 to 2/4/1, 2/4/2, 2/4/3 and 2/4/4

link to document:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/nexus-2000-series-fabric-extenders/116348-technote-fex-00.html

Thought I would share just in case someone comes asking the same questions.
