Agreed, in this Fast world changes happens every few months, I have given the document for high level reference. also suggested to read the release notes also which covers ROMMON Upgrade.

Read the Release Notes very carefully. It is NOT POSSIBLE to go to 3.8.X without ROMmon upgrade FIRST. If the ROMmon is not at a certain level, the supervisor card will "reject" the IOS. And if the old IOS was deleted then the supervisor cards will boot into ROMmon.
