Recommendation for New Cisco Switch

Hi All,

Right now I'm using 2 cisco switches (redundant). The model for those switches is Catalyst SW-2960G-24TCL.

I'm planning to add more servers to the current network but all the ports in the two switches are occupied.

Could you please recommend a new switch with 16 ports which has similar features to the above switches, and what you think the best design will be?

Hi,

The smalls switches are mostly 24 port or 48 ports.  There is 3560 8 ports but may not be good enough for servers.  So,  just get another SW-2960G-24TCL 24 port switch. This way, you are using the same IOS for all switches which makes life easier.

Before doing anything, check your interface counters and make sure you don't have anything under "Total output drops".

If this counter increments periodically, then there's a significant chance your switch's buffer is unable to cope at the continuous traffic (inbound and outbound) from your servers.
