Redundant power Supply RPS 675

Hi,

I've a Catalyst 3560 attached to an RPS 675. When I simulate a fault on internal power supply the RPS takes control and there is no power reset or power cycle.

Then I plug the power cable of the internal power...how can I switch to the internal power supply without causing a power cycle of the switch?

Infact I've simulated a power cycle (unplugging the power cable) of the RPS and there is also a power cycle of the switch although the internal power supply is connected to the power on...

Best regards.

Massimiliano.

Greetings Massimiliano,

This is expected behaviour with most 2xxx/3xxx switch models. Only 3560-E and 3750-E have the ability to switch back to the internal power supply without reloading. More info available here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps7148/ps7130/product_data_sheet0900aecd805bbef6.html

"When backed up by a Cisco RPS 2300, a Cisco Catalyst 3750-E or 3560-E Series Switch is capable of reverting back to its own power supply without rebooting. All other devices may reboot when reverting back to their own power supplies"

CSCdx81023 Switch reloads when changing from RPS to internal power supply

Hope this clarifies,

/Phil

Hi Phillip,

Thank you for your response.

Do Cisco Catalyst 3750-E or 3560-E Series Switch automatically revert to internal power supply?

Best regards.

Massimiliano,

Hi Massimiliano,

Yes, "The Catalyst E Series switches are capable of reverting back to their own power supplies without service interruption." (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps7148/ps7130/prod_qas0900aecd805bbf21.html).

However 3560-E and 3750-E require the newer RPS 2300, the E series switches are not compatible with RPS 675.

Glad to help,

/Phil
