we are in process of updating our network. looking for high speed core.

server traffic is on different vlan

so is voice/ data

we are 98% VM  /SAN is running on seperate Fiber

future: looking into deploying Virtual Desktop as well as over VPN

look at getting either 3850 or 4500 in the core, upgrading to 5515 (however 5525 better option due to link speed?)

any feedback would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi, after a quick look i suggest as best practice from cisco to use 2 10g links as vsl between 2 4500x.

Because you are going to be have VM and SANs, I would recommend you start thinking about using Nexus 7K/7700, 6K, 5K and 2K. Catalyst range of switches will be of no use because of the very shallow memory buffers (intentional).

Our san/vm r on fiber channel. So it's separate from this. Main goal here is to replace 3750 with something that would let us deploy virtual desktop on Lan and to remote users without causing bottleneck. 3850 has only 4 ports for 10gb so. Maybe having 3 or 4 esx hosts connected for network traffic will won't be good idea.. (not enough 10gb ports) Anything I am missing?
