Relevance of sh ip traffic ?

On our edge router the CPU utilisation was quite high. On checking further we could see that the broadcast on the LAN interface was quite high. - Not sure if this can cause high CPU usage?

Interestingly the broadcast count in sh ip traffic result doesn’t match with that’s shown in the sh int f0/0 status(LAN interface where the  broadcast is quite high).

Any one please advise what can be the reason for this mismatch also please advise how to check the CPU usage issue ?

On sorting the process having high CPU utilisation IP input was taking the bulk.. any advice ?

Thanks

H

Hi Hari,

Why dot you use broadcast storm config on interface if you think that’s an issue.

Please see this link for troubleshooting

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps359/products_tech_note09186a00801c2af3.shtml

You can use sho process cpu | exe 0.00

this will filter the process and show you only process which are using the cpu.

The use

Sho process cpu sort 5 sec

Keep repeating it for some time and see if the same process is causing cpu high utilisation. Then start troubleshooting from there.

Please rate if this helps

thanks
