Replace Power Supply Module for CAT4500-E

Hi Cisco Folks :)

Wondering if anyone could advise if you have had the same.

I have a power failure in one of my redundant power supply CAT4500-E

I bought the new one and I want to replace it I went through the below and I am aware of all what has been mentioned in the section Removing and Installing the AC-Input Power Supplies so far.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/hardware/catalyst4500e/installation/guide/Eseries/04replac.html#21132

But I did not see anything related if it is HOT PLUG or I have to turn OFF the core switch?

I am aware that both power modules are separate circuits as well so it might be HOT PLUG but I did not read straight forward information.

Thank you very much

Kind regards
Amr

Hi Julian,

Thanks for your follow up...

Yes, I did it yesterday, Removed the defected one while the operation is up and running.

Plugged in the new PS make sure that the power button is on 0 positions :)

Press power ON it works super without any issue with no impact.

Thanks a lot for you guys, I am glad to have you.

Kind regards
Amr

As long as both power supplies are of the same size, then hot swap should be fine.

Thanks, Leo, for the fast reply.

Well, I am replacing the same part number?! so it should be Hot-plug.

Kind regards
Amr

Hi,

Yes, it will be hot-plug. Make sure other PS must be ok and in working condition.

Thanks, Deepak, for your attention.

True this might be hot-plug, however, I will do the replacement on Monday and I will update you guys with the result.

I just avoid the weekend as we are running a hotel operation.

Thanks a lot

Hi,

I did the same task 2 days ago in working hours.  There was no issue.

Hi!

You can definitely just remove the defective PSU and swap it with the new one without impacting anything,
as long as one PSU is inserted and powered, you can just hot-plug/remove/swap the other one.

Thanks, Julian,

Yes, I do believe that however, I need to have evidence written in the manual...

I have a single core switch so that should be done without a doubt :)

I will update you shortly as I schedule the replacement tomorrow.

Cheers

Kind regards
Amr
