Replacing a cabled LAN with a Wireless LAN is it a viable option?

Hi,

A significant part of our building is still using cat3 cabling. We're looking to upgrade the cabling so we can introduce VOIP. Its been been mentioned that we could introduce a wireless network rather than upgrading the cabling.
Our head office contains around 2000 users, is replacing a wired LAN with a wireless network a viable option considering we require VOIP?

Thanks

Darren

hi,

technically both wired and wired are feasible. you may want to consider to go with a majority of the users on wired phones, and wireless phones for users with special needs.

for me, a wired desk phone would seem more practical to a normal office worker.

either way, there is a need to deploy the infrastructure for the voip devices to work on, if it is not present;

- wireless equipment, APs, controller, authentication server (for wireless clients), or

- PoE switches and cabling for wired phones
