Reset a 2960X correctly

Hi,

I'm trying to reset 2960X, but when the process is complete, my switch has already some old configuration line like the switch number.

I follow the method with Mode button (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960xr/hardware/quick/guide/b_gsg_2960xr.html#task_DF388611FF3C43C990C7F291A8D0D8BC), the write erase method (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-2900-xl-series-switches/24328-156.html#reset_switch) and the method with rommon (https://fatmin.com/2012/12/02/how-to-reset-cisco-catalyst-2960-back-to-factory-defaults/comment-page-1/).

But when it's start again, I see "switch 2 provision ws-c2960x-48ts-l"

How can I reset my switch correctly ?

Thank you

my switch has already some old configuration line like the switch number.

conf t

switch 2 renumber 1

end

reload

Ok I know this command, but how can I be sure that there is no other old parameters ?

Check your stack to identify whether or not you have a switch already numbered in the stack and if so renumber switches as required.

Reset Steps

Boot to OS

Decline initial config

enable mode

show start

show ver

show flash show env all

show POS

Then use the dir flash command;

dir flash:

Shows files in flash mem

delete flash: command will erase files in flash memory

syntax:

delete flash:config-txt , confirm will delete the config.txt file

Repeat for all files

Reboot

OS will boot from NVRAM

Sorted

Hi,

I have same problem on 3750G.

I reloaded in ROMMON mode. The command SET show a lot of parameters and SWITCH_NUMBER=2

unset SWITCH_NUMBER

boot

when the boot finish, my switch is number 1 again, but I think switch 2 renumber 1 is the same.

Can you supply screenshots? Anything that illustrates the problem would be welcome. I am trying to see if the problem is syntax or is the problem located in flash memory.
