RIP on Cisco Routers

I havent configured RIP on a Cisco router in years. Is it still the same paradigm, in which routers running RIP advertise their entire routing tables to their peers?

I was pretty impressed by Juniper's feature for RIP in which they allow you to create route filters, just as we do in BGP, so that you can control the routes you advertise ("export", using Juniper parlance) to a peer RIP router.

Thanks

Awesome, buddy! Thats exactly what I was looking for. A simple filter list...didnt know you could do it with RIP...thought distribute lists were for redistribution purposes...

as I said, its been a long time since I configured RIP.

One I like with offset-list is that you can decide until how many hops away the route will be advertised. Distribute list removes the route.

Example: r1-r2-r3-r4

with an offset list on r1 you can select the metric so that the route is only advertized to r2, r3 but not r4

Both options have their advantages and both will use an ACL.

Depending on the requirements and design, the appropriate can be choosen.

Distribute list were added later on for RIP on IOS.

Filter list can use REGEXP unlike distribute or offset.
