Hi. I have two Cat6506 (redundant collapsed-core config) configured w/ RPVST+ and connected to this are a series of Cat2950s configured with PVST. My question is, is this a good practice configuration of STP? If not whats the best practise .
What I am seing in most of the networks is the setup I mentioned above which I believe is not a best practise. Please advice.

Hello,
Combining different versions of STP is never a good practice. In order to yield the maximum performance from RSTP, all switches should run RSTP, otherwise, its rapidness is lost in the network parts running RSTP. The 2950 Catalysts support RPVST nicely, therefore, I strongly suggest to move to RSTP/RPVST network-wide. Please allocate a maintenance window for this configuration change, as it will cause transient network outage.
Best regards,
Peter
