Hi i wanted to know what routers and switches i should use, for connecting 3 schools togther. The boys high school has 3 labs with 20 computers, the other high school has also the same amount and the primary school has 1 lab with 20 computer. The school are next to each other. Also would like to know how many routers and switches i need and the kind of cabling.
Please any help

You need to specify the WAN bandwidth for all three sites.

I agree with Leo that to give good recommendations we would need to know more about the requirements for each school. In general I would think that each of the labs would need an Ethernet switch and it sounds like a 24 port switch would be adequate. I assume that you would use copper Ethernet to connect the switch to the computer and would want the switch to have at least one fiber connection to connect the switches together. I would think that each school would need a layer 3 switch or small router to connect the lab switches and to provide routing logic. I would assume that the connections between schools would probably be fiber.
You have not indicated whether this network is to operate as a stand alone network or whether it needs connectivity to the Internet. If it needs outside connectivity then there is probably a need for a router for this and perhaps a firewall.

Hey Rick,
Hmmmm ... Someone deleted my reply to the last post about this thread stating that this is a HOMEWORK.
For the sake of helping the OP, I'm not going to add anymore input until I find any concrete evidence that the OP is doing something and hitting a roadblock instead of asking people to DO his homework.
My opionion ...

Interesting perspective and it seems to fit. So I will follow your lead and wait for additional input from the OP.

Hey Rick,
Haven't seen you post for awhile. How have you been?

Thanks. I have been ok - quite busy with customer work (a very good thing) which has decreased the amount of time I have for the forum. I get back as I can.
Thanks for the heads up about the possible intent of this thread.

No problem, Rick.
Just didn't like the intention by the person who DELETED the reply that confirmed that this thread is a homework.
