sdm template mismatch - Cisco 3850

Whilst trying to add a new switch to an existing stack, the new switch keeps rebooting and on further inspection the reason was stated as ““sdm template mismatch”.
Looking at an existing switch in comparison to the new switch it appears that the new switch has “Smart Licensing" instead of "right-to-use", and I believe this may be causing the SDM issue.
I tried to run some commands to switch the license to “right to use” but these were unrecognised on the switch.

basic questions:
1 - what platforms are the existing stack members, and what platform is the one you are trying to add? (IE - 3850-48p, 3850-12s, etc)
2 - what version is the existing stack running, and what version is the one you are trying to add.
I'm not really sure from your description that it is a version mismatch, it could be but there's not enough info.
the reason I ask about the types of switches in the stack is because based on the sdm mismatch, that would point to the particular platform. If you issue the command "sho sdm prefer", you will see the by default the pure edge switches (like the 24 or 48 port) use the desktop template, whereas the 12 sfp model will use the distribution template. that is what I suspect is causing the mismatch, but need more info.

Both switches are 3850's and I have the auto upgrade command applied to master switch (I ensured that the new switch had a priority of 1). The outputs are as follows:

Can you post exiting version of code running and also whatis the new device adding to stack version
stacking rule, all should be same model and save version, also check what SDM config was there ?
