Setting up SFP+ on 9300-NM-8X switch

Hello, we are currently using the Cisco 9300-NM-8X switches that come with the SFP-10G-LR-X SFP+ fiber modules. We cannot get our connection to work without having to replace the modules back to a regular SFP module, GLC-LX-SM-RGD.

Here is our configuration, with the Gigabit, TwentyFiveGig, and FortyGigabit configurations disabled:

interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1/1
switchport trunk native vlan 5
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,10,20,30,40,50,60,200
switchport mode trunk
switchport nonegotiate
!
interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1/2
switchport access vlan 10
switchport mode access
spanning-tree guard root
!

Is there something else we need to add to our configuration to get our SFP+ modules to work?

Thanks!

Hello @HunterM,

It seems you need to connect single-mode fiber to your Cisco 9300-NM-8X.

Do you have checked the SPF compatibility with your platform?

Yes, according to other Cisco support messages I've seen and the spec sheet, the 9300-NM-8X supports SFP and SFP+. We are using single mode fiber as well, thanks!

Hello,

9300-NM-8X should a switch module. Which switch do you have.  This is not about configuration. If the SFP does not work or present error logs, this is probably to incompatibility or hardware problem.

Our switch is a 9300 48 UPOE with a 9300-NM-8X fiber module.

Another question, do all switches need to have the same port configuration? As in do they all need to be configured for Gigabit and TenGigabit to talk to each other?

We are connecting a 9300 to another 9300/9500 stack. So should they all be set to TenGigabit configs to work on SFP+?

If you want to connect via 10Gig, you need SFP+ across the board. If you want to connect using 1Gig, you need 1Gig SFPs across the board. Whatever you use on one side of the connection, do the same on the other side. Do not try to connect a 1Gig to a 10Gig.

As long as your fiber is single-mode and you are using IOS XE 16.10.1 or later version, you should be able to use  SFP-10G-LR-X
