SFP interconnect cable

I am VERY new to networking, in that this is the first time I've ever tried to install a new switch... So my question is, we currently have an existing 3560-G switch and we received a new one, along with the SFP cable. Can I simply plug the new one, connect the cable to the new and existing one? If this is the case, can all this be done while everything is up without interrupting service/networking?? thanks in advance, realize this is simple to some but not to me :)

yes, you should be fine in plugging the cable directly to the switchports. All these switches suppports host-swapping the modules and cables. You can simply connect the new cable on the fly wheneverything is up and runnning. Make sure that no redundant cables are connected in the configuration.
