I would like to confirm if multiauth is available on the SG500X switches.  I did not see anything in documentation, assuming its not supported on these switches.  Would like to confirm, thank you.

multiauth 802.1x - Authenticated multiple clients on the same 802.1x port

look at the Cisco 500 Series Stackable Managed Switches Command Line Interface Reference Guide, Release 1.4
(valid for Sx500 series, so I guess also for SG500x switch)

2.10 dot1x host-mode
     Use the dot1x host-mode Interface Configuration mode command

     to allow a single host (client) or multiple hosts on an IEEE 802.1X-authorized port.

     Use the no form of this command to return to the default setting.
Syntax
     dot1x host-mode {multi-host | single-host | multi-sessions}
Parameters

   • multi-host—Enable multiple-hosts mode.

   • single-host—Enable single-hosts mode.

   • multi-sessions—Enable multiple-sessions mode

So, it appeared that we were running old firmware, which was causing an issue.  Once i updated the firmware, and enabled multi-sessions mode on the port, I was able to authenticate (RADIUS/802.1X) for multiple users/devices coming through the same port etc.  Marking pieterh's answer as the solution, thanks all.
