Single port VLAN to internet

Hello,

I would appreciate your help with this problem.

I am working with 3 Cisco 2960 L2 switches and one Cisco 3560 L3 switch. They each have an IP address and the are configured pretty much to default settings and all on the default VLAN (VLAN1). What I need to do is configure a VLAN on one of the switch ports. The PC on that port will have an entirely different IP address than the rest of my network and all it needs to do is have internet access.

I have already created vlan 10 on fasterthernet 0/2 on one 2960 and set switchport mode to access. I set it to access because there will be no other PCs on vlan 10 and so I am thinking the vlan does not have to be trunked. Bt what do I know? I just started working with managed switches recently.

Anyway, how do I get the PC on port 0/2 in vlan 10 internet access? Does the 3560 come into play?

Network info: network - 10.100.1.0/24, switches - .220 thru .223, default GW .13

PC on port 0/2 - 192.168.15.15/24 (or any ip for that matter).

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Louis,

because the 2960 is L2 only, you would need to trunk vlan 10 to the 3560, then create the appropriate SVI's and routes on the L3 switch.

Thanks Joshua,

The information you gave me led me in the right direction. I was abel to find detailed information on configuring the trunk, SVI, and routing the port. The last piece of information i need to complete this task is the following:

To route vlan10 traffic from the 3560 to my firewall I found this command, ip route 0.0.0.0 .0.0.0.0 10.0.0.2 with 10.0.0.2 being the firewall port. I do not want all 3560 traffic to route to 10.0.0.2 just the traffic from vlan10. this command looks like it routes everything.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Use Policy based routing to set next hop of your choice for the vlan 10 traffic. Here's the howto link for that :-
