We have a pair of ASA 5585X firewalls that need to connect to a pair of Avaya VSP9000 switches. The Cisco docs refer to doing spanned etherchannel with a Cat 6500 switch using VSS or a Nexus switch using VPC. Does spanned etherchannel work with non Cisco switches or is this proprietary? The etherchannel on the ASA is setup using LACP. Here's applicable configuration:
channel-group 2 mode active vss-id 1
channel-group 2 mode active vss-id 2
port-channel span-cluster vss-load-balance
Not familiar with Avaya, but both VSS and vPC are Cisco proprietary protocols. If Avaya switches are capable of clustering, maybe you can run LACP and not use the keyword vss-id x.
I get an error when not using vss-id
(config-if)# channel-group 2 mode active
ERROR: Member interface of Port-channel 2 must have a valid vss-id.
The recommended switches are CISCO Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7000 to be paired with ASA clustering. VSS and vPC are CISCO proprietary technologies.
Are you trying to paire ASA cluster wtith a single Avaya switch?
