Spanning-Tree Blocked Switch Port Locations (Unable to Block)

I have (3) switches which are connected together in a redundant configuration. The connection between the SludgeBLDG and DigestBLDG switches are using ports Gig1/0/3-4. I have manually set the port cost for all VLANs to 100 but am still unable to configure the connections between the switches to block. Essentially, I am trying to force the switches to use a different RSTP path.

My switch configurations are below.

the file attached works fine; Close your PT files; reopen one u shared here.  DigestBldg3850 link to Sludge are ALT Blocking because Sludge Lower MAC wins with Bridge priority equal (000A.xover 0030.x)

I only see one link on non-existing vlan 200 set up with cost 100; perhaps typo

spanning-tree vlan 200 cost 100

see post STP Designated Port Election in CLN forum, https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/s/question/0D53i00000Kt6RkCAJ/stp-designated-port-election

The selection rules for designated port are as follows:

1. Lowest root path cost (of the switch claiming to be designated bridge for the segment)

2. Lowest BID (of the switch claiming to be designated bridge for the segment)

3. Lowest Port ID.

Also,  note that sender is the preferred (Lowest sender BID and  Sender Port ID)

see below my comment

Update - I just made sure that I changed the priority for all VLANs on Gig1/0/3-4 to a cost of 100. However, the interfaces are still showing as forwarding. On the other end of the links, on switch DigestBLDG, I was able to successfully block the Gig1/0/3-4 ports by setting a cost of 100. Not sure why I am unable to set on SludgeBLDG. My goal is to eliminate this link and have the STP traffic flow from SludgeBLDG thru AdminBLDG and to DigestBLDG.

Here is data from the SludgeBLDG switch. Notice the change in cost and that the interfaces are still forwarding.

change DigestBLDG switch priority to be high than SludgeBLDG priority.

I made the update to the DigestBLDG switch and was able to block both ports. However, on SludgeBLDG, the ports Gig1/0/3-4 are still forwarding. Looking at the diagram, I am trying to block the connection between the SludgeBLDG and DigestBLDG switches so that all traffic is routed through the AdminBLDG switch.

Here is the config from the SludgeBLDG showing that ports Gig1/0/3-4 are still forwarding

It actually just occurred to me that if I blocked both the Gig1/0/3-4 ports on Digest BLDG connected to the Gig1/0/3-4 ports on SludgeBLDG, even though the Gig1/0/3-4 ports on SludgeBLGD are still forwarding, they won't traverse the DigestBLDG switch. So essentially, I am in fact accomplishing my goal. Am I on the right track?

""I made the update to the DigestBLDG switch and was able to block both ports. However, on SludgeBLDG, the ports Gig1/0/3-4 are still forwarding.""

what is the Priority now for DigestBLDG and SludgeBLDG ?

SludgeBLDG | Gig1/0/3-4 ports are set to 100

DigestBLDG | Gig1/0/3-4 ports are set to 200

I am thinking that even though ports Gig1/0/3-4 are still forwarding for SludgeBLDG, SludgeBLDG is unable to forward traffic through DigestBDLG because Gig1/0/3-4 on DigestBLDG are blocking

friend I talking about SW priority not port priority

switch priority change with
switch spanning tree vlan x priority

change this and see the effect in both SW.

Screenshot (55).pngScreenshot (56).png

I make lab and you can see IOU3 was have three BLK port (as your case)
after I change the switch priority in IOU2 to be high than IOU3
the port  become FWD

as I suggest before change the priority of SW
the cost of port not effect until some condition achieve.

I made this change to DigestBLDG and per the screenshot below, the ports are still forwarding. (See the priority change)

OutdoorAdventurer_0-1670513052133.png

The ports on SludgeBLDG are still blocked as per the screenshot. I need to block the link between the (2) switches.

OutdoorAdventurer_1-1670513137484.png

you make DigestBLDG now the new Root for STP,
use priority 16xxx not 12288 in DigestBLDG

DO THIS and see the magic of SW priority in STP elect port.

Still not able to get the intended result. It is possible that I cannot completely block the entire link between SludgeBLDG and DigestBLDG? I was able to block both ports Gig1/0/3-4 on DigestBDLG which are connected to SludgeBLDG. Essentially, this would stop SludgeBLDG from forwarding traffic through DigestBLDG. To accomplish this, all I did was set the port priority to 200.

show me the show spanning tree in both SW
