Spanning tree role in linear connected switches

Hi Folks!!

Hope all are doing great and enjoyed new year!

Today came with very simple and silly question...!!

Suppose there are five switches connected linear(no ring), will Spanning tree create any issue in that connectivity.

Whether MAC will forwarded between switch to switch even if we disable spanning tree on all connected ports.

Note:Switches connected linear only (no ring formation between switches)

this linear (flat network) will work fine and all SW will learn MAC and forward traffic IF you disable STP in all SW
there is no problem with that.

the STP will not block any interface
but even with this flat network dont disable the STP

Thanks for the reply.

But may I know reason not to disable STP on linear network.

you are admin and you know your network and link connection between SW
but if user use hub or interconnect two port in same SW or in different SW this will form L2 Loop
so we run STP even with this flat network to protect from user mistake

@MHM Cisco World That is fine.... We'll not talk about other case or other connectivity. Here the thing is if this is linear connectivity and we disable stp on switches, will it not forward mac or everything will work on the setup until loop will not form.

Just confirming the information @MHM Cisco World already provided, i.e. a linear topology (or any other L2 topology without any loops) doesn't need STP but it's recommended to still have it enabled to avoid "accidental" loop creation bringing down the network.

Add to that

If he connect two sw via two link in this linear network and disable stp.

Whole network will down and sw will full with broadcast strom.

So friend never disable stp except cases

1- connect cisco sw to other vendor that run unknown stp mode for cisco

2- interconnect two datacenter via l2vpn
