Spanning Tree Root Bridge

Hi Guys,

Can someone please help me decide which switch should be selected for the root bridge? I know how the elections all work on how a switch becomes a root bridge but I'm just having difficulty in selecting which switch should be the root bridge.

Just a bit of info regarding the topology. The spanning tree topology will be running is MST one instance for all VLANS. There's about 40 VLANS in total with the ASA's doing the routing between the VLANS. The active ASA is at one building with an Internet Connection (DR Site 1) and the standby ASA is at another building with another Internet connection (DR Site 2). All outbound traffic will be going out Active ASA (DR Site 1). The switch lablelled Council House OSP DMZ switch is at another building.

I was thinking of making the Switch plugged directly into Active ASA as the root bridge and the switch directly connected into the Standby ASA as the secondary Root bridge. If someone can let me know if this is the best selection I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Ross.

Hi Ross,

If you want high availibility, I would suggest add redundant path from both primary and secondary ASA to both primary and secondary roots.
