Speed/Duplex issue between 3400 and 2960

I am having an odd issue connecting an ME-3400 to a Cat 2960. When I force both ports on the switches to 10/full, the link will not come up. If I set one end to auto and one to 10/full the auto port comes up at 10/half. I get the same thing if I force either port to 100/full. If I set both ports to auto, both come up at 100/full. The 3400 is running 12.2(35)SE1 and the 2960 is running 12.2(35)SE5. Anyone had this problem?

What sort of cable are you using - straing or cross-over? I think when you force the speed & duplex it disables the MDIX feature (so it won't auto-cross the TX & RX pairs if you use a straight cable). Try using a 10BaseT Cross-Over cable and force the settings.

To be honest I would just leave both ends at Auto...
