SSH issues for WS-C3750g-24ps-s

dstriplin1
Level 1
Level 1

Hi All,

Hoping for someone to put a second set of eyes on my config and let me know what I'm overlooking.  I have no doubt it is a simple fix, but I cannot seem to figure it out.  I do have a K9 image and I believe I have done things correctly, but I am learning.  Here is the dump of my sh ver as well as running config....

Thank you in advance for the help!!!!!

-Dave

Leo,

I tried that, and didn't get anything.  Question....could it be something wrong in the settings of my ip addresses on my interfaces or vlans?

Leo,

I gave that a shot and still no connection via ssh.  Happy to try any other ideas you might have.

Thanks,
Dave

I know you might have tried different option as suggested in the post with other members.

Trying to understand which was not addressed in the post : ( or i may be over looked which was not found)

1. From what IP address you trying to SSH to this device ?

2. From the souce device can you able to ping to this Switch ?

3. what tool you trying to ssh ? ( putty or secure CRT - what version they are ?)

SSH to work here is the besic steps (it should work)

Global # Service password-encryption

1.username bbandi  privilege 15 secret password <<- replace the username and password your environment

2. ip domain-name  bbandi.com

3. crypto key generate rsa  ( i use 1024 )

4.  line vty 0 15

     transport input ssh

       login local

5. exiting from the config, save and test it.

here is the official document :

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

BB,

Thanks for the input.  My computer is currently at 10.0.1.28 which is on the same subnet.  That's why I'm so puzzled as I don't understand why I can't get access. I cannot seem to ping any addresses on the switch.

I have tried both putty and secureCRT both with no results.

Here is my question, just to double check my sanity.  What IP should I be trying to use to connect via ssh?  I thought it was the default gateway of the switch which is currently 10.0.1.2.

I just ran what you suggested, and it is still not working.  I cannot ping it from my computer when I try to ping 10.0.1.2

I also cannot ping the vlan90 address either which is 10.0.1.170

Ugh....pulling my hair out here.  thanks in advance for your help

Hello
Can you confirm what vlan you are using for your management access you need to have a default-gateway pointing to the L3 switch holding supporting for this vlan

conf t
no ip routing
no ip default-gateway 10.0.1.70
ip default-gateway 10.0.1.xxxx

You dont have ssh enabled on this switch ?

crypto key generate rsa label SSH general-keys modulus 2048
ip ssh source-interface vlan 90
ip ssh ver 2

line vty 0 4
transport input ssh

Ok....so interestingly enough, when I run those commands and put the switchport mode access to vlan 90 I can now ssh, but I lose internet access.

when i disable switchport mode access, I gain internet back, but can no longer access via ssh.  What could be wrong in my vlan settings of vlan90 now?  Here is an output of sh ver and show int

Here is your problem :

Vlan50 is up, line protocol is down  <--- if this need to come up, once the switch access port need to be in the VLAN50
Internet address is 172.16.1.1/24

Vlan90 is up, line protocol is down  <---<--- if this need to come up, once the switch access port need to be in the VLAN90
Internet address is 10.0.1.170/24

Not sure what is internet side IP address, here is you need to do.

1. provide the interface connnected to uplink or internet connected interface.

2. make your PC Gateway as 10.0.1.170 as gateway (not 10.0.1.1) - switch should have default gateway 10.0.1.1)

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Balaji,

Thank you for your help.  I must have something configured improperly on my vlan90 settings.  When I do the command you've specified, I once again lose internet access, although I can ssh to the switch, which was my original goal in this thread. I appreciate your help...here are the IP addresses I'm using, hope this helps!

Router- 10.0.1.1

PC - 10.0.1.115

But your config "is connected to Gig1/0/25"

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/25
switchport trunk allowed vlan 50
speed 1000
duplex full

Vlan50 is up, line protocol is down
Internet address is 172.16.1.1/24    <<- what is this IP address

Lets change the config as below : to fix the issue, assuming that Router side also trunk configured.

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/25
switchport trunk allowed vlan 50,90  ( not sure what is your router side config, if possisble post that config

test and advise

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Ok!  So I can ping it and Putty and SecureCRT will establish and SSH session so thank you so so much!!!!!

The last thing I will bother you about is that it seems there is a username and password established and I cannot remember it.  It is most likely a quick one that I did while trying different commands and I have no clue what it is.  How can I clear out any usernames associated with the interfaces as well as the vlans and setup a new one.  I'm familiar with how to create a username and password, but not to see the usernames assocaited with an interface or how to clear one out.  Any suggestions?

Once again, I very much appreciate your help!!!!!

Nevermind...I realized I didn't have login local enabled.  Good to go and thank you again for your help!
