stack membership 3650 output

Hi Expert,

Do you know if it is normal to have the following output in one of the stacks we have:

switch# show switch
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 885a.927f.9544:Local Mac Address
Mac persistency wait time: Indefinite
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
------------------------------------------------------------
*1 Active 885a.927f.5180 15 A0 Ready
2 Standby 1005.ca84.0480 14 A0 Ready
3 Member 1005.ca83.4acc 13 A0 Ready
4 Member 1005.ca84.4148 12 A0 Ready
5 Member 885a.925d.4581 11 A0 Ready
6 Member 885a.925d.7424 10 A0 Ready

what does it mean the "*" symbol in the active line?

why we have the standby?

I just want to know if this is  a regular output, just wanna make sure the current health is fine with the stack

Hi Alex

The "standby" state is a normal behavior, it will take the active role once the current active switch is down. About the (*):

A stack master keeps its role unless one of these events occurs:

  • The stack is reset.*
  • The master is removed from the stack.
  • The master is reset or powered off.
  • The master fails.
  • The stack membership is increased by adding powered-on standalone switches or switch stacks.*

In the events marked by an asterisk (*), the current stack master might be re-elected based on the listed factors.

Thanks for the explanation. I now understand the output, I was thinking there was something bad with it.

Thanks so much,

It was a pleasure Alex,

Have a good day

:-)
